The day has come. Alternative has become mainstream. It’s been a slow transition filled with many ups and downs. Oh, you’re not wearing short fluorescent clothes that are too small for you? How shameful. In today’s standards, however, that shall be rephrased: oh, you’re not wearing short fluorescent clothes that are too small for you? You’re so unique, please wait while I take off my clothes. This should be a good thing and yet its just turned it into one big race to be the most “un-mainstream” person out! I don’t mind this, because its allowed me to discover some pretty cool new things through all the new exposure to different cultures. But with every 1 original person 3 annoying ones are born, and then the 3 annoying people find another 3 annoying people and so the cycle continues until you have one MASSIVE group of annoying people! As you have deciphered, it is a rather annoying situation.
I think the most annoying thing about it is the new fascination with tea. Tea has been around for how long? But ohhhh no now the super freakin alternative group is drinking it is SUCH a cool thing do drink. Every Friday they fill up my facebook wall with messages like “Tea Friday,,soooooo excited!” Really? Tea Friday? Drinking tea on Monday is just so passe. I always feel like going “YAY tea Friday! LOL jks, where’s my fucking latte.” That’ll learn them.
Maybe I shouldn’t care so much, it doesn’t effect me at all except for the annoyance of having to hear them talk about it. All the time. Maybe some good can come out of it. I discovered The Last Dinosaurs and The XX through some of them (the good non-annoying ones). It also might inspire some people to open their minds, which is always a good thing because my one major fear is that this country will become completely conservative, in which case I’ll most likely die. But this has got of to an awry start as some of them have been quite nasty to some of my friend’s friends. I don’t really like these friend’s friends, as they try a bit too hard and are really quite genuinely weird, but that doesn’t mean I’m about to be outright rude to them because that’s just pathetic. You’d think “The Alternatives” (which is now the collective noun for the annoying people) would be the most respectful, but apparently not.
But alas, we shall see how the situation evolves; hopefully something good comes out of it and my annoyances disappear.
